Getting ready forAdaptive Storytime at Medford Public Library.
A small evening storytime for neurodivergent kids, with visual schedules, fidget items, dimmed lighting, special cushions, a weighted vest to borrow and a quiet room, plus a social story that walks through every step.
Sensory supports. Adaptive Storytime, social story, quiet room.
Hours
Library: Monday to Thursday 9 am to 9 pm, Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, closed Sunday. Adaptive Storytime: Wednesday, November 18, 2026, 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
“Explore stories, music, movement, and play in an adaptive setting with sensory supports such as visual schedules, fidget items, dimmed lighting, and more.”
“It’s okay if I need to take a break. My grownup(s) can take me to the quiet room, or outside to get a drink of water.”
“It’s okay if I can’t sit still. I can stand up and move around.”
The storytime is for everyone, and it's built especially for kids who are autistic, have sensory processing challenges or ADHD, or find other storytimes hard to sit through.
Grown-ups can ask to borrow a special vest that feels like a hug, and kids can pick a fidget from the bin.
Can't make it? Cancel at least 24 hours ahead; two no-shows without notice can mean 90 days on the waitlist. Questions: Maddi, mranieri@minlib.net or 781-475-5734.
