Getting ready forthe Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia).
A big art museum in south Minneapolis, free every day, with free sensory totes at the Third Avenue Lobby Desk, a quiet space you can ask a key for, and sensory-friendly maps of each floor.
“Mia provides complimentary sensory totes for guests to enhance their focus or calm while touring the galleries.”
“This area is additionally available for use as a sensory friendly quiet space. Please see the Lobby desk to request a key to access the room.”
“Visitors of any age may find sensory tools useful.”
The quiet space is the museum's Multi-Faith Prayer + Contemplation Room, so it's shared and kept locked. Ask at the Lobby desk for the key.
Each tote has noise-reducing headphones, a stress ball or atom ball, calming blubber, a marble or pea pod fidget, sensory rings, a fidget spinner and a 3-lb. lap pad.
Bags larger than 15 by 15 inches, backpacks, umbrellas and water bottles have to be checked before the galleries. There's a self-serve coat check.
